Four Things New Members Should Do

As a PERA member, you are earning benefits that will provide you and your loved ones with financial security throughout your career and in retirement.

Every time you get paid, you and your employer contribute a portion of your pay to PERA. Your contributions fund your member account at PERA and will only ever be used to fund your retirement benefit. In fact, those contributions – plus interest and a potential match – are always yours even if you change jobs.

As a new member, here are the four things you should do in the first 60 days:

  1. Visit copera.org and learn about your new member benefits
  2. Watch the new member webinar on demand or sign up for a live webinar
  3. Visit copera.org and register your member account.
  4. Check out the PERA Video Library to learn about PERA benefits throughout your career and tips on retirement planning.

When you register your PERA account, you gain access to your member dashboard where you can monitor your retirement balance, earned service, list your beneficiaries, update your mailing and email addresses, and even open voluntary savings through the PERAPlus plans. By registering your account, you ensure you will receive important information about your benefits and play an active role in your retirement planning.

Congratulations on your new role and welcome to PERA. Please visit the New Member page or contact us if you have any questions about your PERA benefits.
