PERACare Open Enrollment Explained

August 15, 2017

The information and resources in this newsletter are intended to help you prepare for your insurance needs in 2018.

What is Open Enrollment?

PERACare open enrollment is an annual event that allows Colorado PERA retirees and benefit recipients to add or change health care, dental, or vision coverage for themselves and their eligible dependents. If you do not have PERACare coverage, you can enroll during this time. If you already have PERACare coverage, open enrollment is an opportunity to change plans and/or add eligible dependents to your plans. Any changes or enrollments made during open enrollment become effective January 1, 2018.

When is Open Enrollment?

Open enrollment begins on Sunday, October 1, and ends on Thursday, November 9, 2017. Many retirees choose not to make any changes during open enrollment and do not need to take any action. However, if you do wish to make changes, you can review your options using these resources.

What Do I Need to Do?

Start thinking about the coverages that you currently have, and how well they meet your needs. If you decide to change your existing coverage, add new coverage, or add a dependent, you will need to submit a PERACare Enrollment/Change Form to PERA on or before November 9, 2017 (mailed forms must be postmarked by November 9, 2017). If you do not want to make changes to your existing coverage, you do not need to take any action.

What Will Change in 2018?

PERA is currently finalizing benefits and premiums for 2018. Detailed benefit and premium information will be available in mid-September online at www.copera.org and will be mailed to you if you currently have PERACare coverage.

Open Enrollment is October 1–November 9, 2017
