In May, PERA will hold an election for four seats on its 16-member volunteer Board of Trustees. Each seat represents a four-year term. Terms expire June 30, 2021, for the following Trustees:

  • Tina Mueh (School Division)
  • Marcus Pennell (School Division)
  • Suzanne Kubec (State Division)
  • Julie Friedemann (Retirees; elected by retirees from the Local Government, Judicial, and School Divisions)

Visit the Board Election page on in early May for details on each of the candidates, including biographical information and candidates’ responses to PERA-specific questions.

Voting will be available via phone, web, or paper ballot. Mailed ballots must be postmarked by May 31, 2021; Internet and phone voting closes at midnight (Mountain time) on May 31, 2021.

New Governor Appointee Joins the PERA Board

In January, a new Governor-appointed member joined the PERA Board. Taylor McLemore was appointed by Gov. Polis to fill a vacancy after James Calano withdrew from the appointment in September 2020. His term will expire July 10, 2024.

New Board Chair Elected

Marcus Pennell is the new Chair of Colorado PERA’s Board of Trustees. The Board elected Pennell to the position at its November meeting; his two-year term began in January. Pennell is elected by School Division employees and has served on the Board since 2003, and consecutively since 2009. Timothy M. O’Brien previously served as Board Chair and was ineligible for re-election after serving two consecutive terms.
